Description
1. Brief Introduction to Titanium Alloy Forged Discs
Titanium alloy forged discs are disc-shaped components processed from titanium and titanium alloy raw materials through forging. A typical application is the engine compressor disc – a critical part of aircraft engines with stringent technical requirements. As engine thrust-to-weight ratios increase and operating temperatures rise, heat-strengthened titanium alloys have been widely adopted in recent years.
2. Common Grades of Titanium Alloy Forged Discs
| Grade (China) | Grade (International) | Type | Characteristics |
| TA1 / TA2 / TA3 | GR1 / GR2 / GR3 | Commercially Pure Titanium | – |
| TC4 (Ti-6Al-4V) | GR5 | (α+β) Titanium Alloy | Excellent comprehensive mechanical properties, accounts for >60% of industrial titanium use |
| TC6 | – | (α+β) Titanium Alloy | Good medium-temperature performance |
| TC11 | – | Heat-strengthened Titanium Alloy | Outstanding high-temperature performance, usable at 500–550°C |
| TC17 | – | Near-β Titanium Alloy | High strength, high toughness, good hardenability |
| TC18 | – | Near-β Titanium Alloy | High strength, deep hardenability |
| TA7 (Ti-5Al-2.5Sn) | GR6 | α Titanium Alloy | Excellent low-temperature toughness, good weldability |
| TA15 | – | Near-α Titanium Alloy | High medium-temperature strength, good workability |
| TA19 (Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo) | – | Near-α Titanium Alloy | Good high-temperature creep resistance, high thermal stability |
3. Maximum Titanium Alloy Forged Disc Dimensions We Can Produce
Relying on large free forging and die forging equipment, we can currently produce titanium alloy forged discs with a maximum outer diameter of Φ2200 mm and a maximum thickness of 600 mm. Conventional finished dimensions cover the full range from Φ50 mm to Φ3200 mm, meeting the demand for large-diameter heavy forged discs.
4. Applications of Titanium Alloy Forged Discs

High-end Machinery / Medical Devices: Precision transmission discs, large medical equipment load-bearing discs, high-end mold bases.
5. Manufacturing Process of Titanium Alloy Forged Discs
5.1 Raw Material Preparation: Select qualified titanium alloy ingots/bars; cut and turn to prepare forging billets.
5.2 Heating: Use electric furnaces / car-bottom furnaces for precise temperature control, heating the billet in stages to avoid oxidation and hydrogen absorption of titanium alloy.
5.3 Forging Forming
Open-die forging: Suitable for large-size, non-standard large-diameter discs – high flexibility.
Die forging: Suitable for medium and small discs requiring batch production and high precision – neat shape, small allowance.
Ring rolling: For ring-shaped discs, radial rolling forming – high material utilization.
5.4 Heat Treatment: Annealing, solution and aging treatment to optimize microstructure, stabilize strength, hardness and toughness, and eliminate forging residual stress.
5.5 Surface Treatment: Grinding, oxide scale removal, shot blasting, and NDT (UT/MT/PT).
5.6 Precision Machining: Turning, milling, grinding, etc., to ensure dimensional tolerances and surface finish.
5.7 Final Inspection & Warehousing: Mechanical property testing, dimensional re-inspection, material re-inspection.

7. FAQ
- What delivery conditions are available?
As-forged (rough): Forging only, scale removed, no finish machining – lower cost, suitable for customers who will machine themselves.
Annealed: Overall annealing after forging to eliminate residual stress, good plasticity – common mainstream condition.
Solution & aged: Strengthened by heat treatment to achieve required strength and hardness – suitable for high-load applications.
Finished machined: Forging + heat treatment + full-size machining and surface treatment – ready for assembly upon arrival.
Also available with shot blasting, grinding, passivation, etc.
- Can you custom-machined non-standard sizes according to drawings?
Yes. We support full-range non-standard titanium alloy forged disc customization. Customers can provide drawings, dimensional parameters, technical requirements, and operating conditions. Our technical team can assist with process optimization, tolerance matching, and material selection. We can customize special outer diameters, thicknesses, stepped holes, non-standard disc shapes, etc., for either mass production or single-piece trial production.
