Description
1. Introduction to TTMC-2 Non-Magnetic Drill Collar
TTMC-2 non-magnetic drill collar is a specialized downhole tool used in directional drilling and measurement‑while‑drilling (MWD) operations. It offers high tensile strength, good toughness, and excellent corrosion resistance, ensuring reliable performance in harsh downhole environments. Non‑magnetic drill collars are essential for accurate wellbore trajectory measurement, providing a magnetic‑field‑free zone for MWD/LWD tools. They are widely used in oil, gas, and geothermal drilling, as well as in horizontal and deepwater wells.

4. Applications of TTMC‑2 Non‑Magnetic Drill Collar
4.1 Directional Drilling and Horizontal Wells
P530 non‑magnetic drill collars are widely used in directional drilling and horizontal well operations. In practical applications in the Sichuan shale gas block, the P530 drill collar, combined with the MWD system, successfully achieved precise steering over a horizontal section of 2,000 meters.
4.2 Offshore Deepwater Drilling
In a South China Sea deepwater drilling project, the anti‑whirl characteristics of the P530 non‑magnetic drill collar improved drill string stability by 40%, effectively avoiding measurement errors caused by downhole vibration.
4.3 Measurement While Drilling / Logging While Drilling (MWD/LWD)
The P530 non‑magnetic drill collar provides a magnetic‑interference‑free working environment for MWD/LWD instruments, ensuring the accuracy of real‑time downhole data transmission.
4.4 Geological Exploration and Coalbed Methane Development
Suitable for the extraction of oil, natural gas, and coalbed methane, as well as geological formation exploration.
5. Product Advantages of TTMC‑2 Non‑Magnetic Drill Collar Manufactured by TIPTOP

6. Forging Process of TTMC-2 Non‑magnetic Drill Collar
6.1 Smelting + Electroslag Remelting (ESR)
Use an electric furnace for primary melting, followed by secondary refining via electroslag remelting (ESR) to produce high‑purity steel ingots with a dense, homogeneous structure—this lays the foundation for all subsequent performance.
6.2 Forging
Heat the steel ingot and then forge it into shape using a radial forging machine in multiple passes. First apply small deformation to refine the surface structure, then large deformation to consolidate the core, ultimately forming the drill collar blank.
6.3 Solution Heat Treatment
Heat the forging to a high temperature and then rapidly water‑quench to fully austenitize the microstructure, eliminate internal stresses, and stabilize the material’s low magnetic permeability and high strength.
6.4 Machining
Perform rough turning to remove the scale, then finish turning the outer diameter, drill deep holes, and cut threads to achieve the final dimensional and accuracy requirements.
6.5 Full‑Process Inspection
For each batch, carry out inspections for magnetic permeability, mechanical properties, ultrasonic testing (UT), etc., to ensure that all products meet the required specifications.
